If you own a website that publishes events:

The several variants of RSS (RSS 1.0, 2.0, Atom, etc) are all very good for syndicating any kind of news or articles, but to effectively syndicate other content, we need to add more relevant data. Fortunately, there have already been several solutions created for this.

Several RDF extensions to RSS exist, all of which have tags for at least start date, end date, and geographical location. RSS Events is an easy to use extension which can be found in some Craigslist feeds, as well as other places.

Xcal and RDF Calendar are extensions who aim to map closely to to the ICAL calendar format. Google publishes the public calendars with optional extended data using their own GDATA format if you specify a 'full' feed.

Also suitable for syndicating feeds, but without having to publish your data in two formats, is the HCalendar microformat.

If you would like to find events:

Contact the event providers you visit and ask them if they syndicate events. If they don't, explain the benefits - how syndicating their events will help more people find them.

If you're in the media, or know someon in the media, write about it. (Blog about it!).
