I first starting thinking about this problem when I began working on Miracleme, a website for helping people out with free goods and services, but as I worked through the logic and structure of the site, I realized that it was inherently limited by creating another silo of information. So I started thiking about how website could share information, and then how events are a perfect fit for an information sharing technology.

For much of the web, the value of the information is in bring attention to the website - by the content exists to draw readers and then once you have their attention you either try to sell them your goods or idea, or get them to view some advertisements. Events are different - the value of an event is in getting people attend the event - it doesn't matter if the people viewed your website or not. So the farther you can broadcast your event information, the better. The only entities who benefit from keeping event information in silos are those who are just using it for the purposes mentioned earlier - the event itself always benefits by being broadcast to the most possible attendees.

Thus began a small quest to work out how to syndicate and aggregate events, and then to spread the idea.
